WORKING TOGETHER OUT OF POVERTY

Every October, 17th since 1993 the United Nations observe the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. This day tries to promote people's awareness of the need to eradicate poverty worldwide, also in the place we live. 2012 theme is "Working together out of poverty".

What can we do to fight against poverty and combat hunger?

This year Norba Bilingual Section students want to take real action. Every student is invited to donate food for the Food Bank in Cáceres. Agapito Antana and Montaña Regueiro, two volunteers at the Food Bank, told us they are really in need of MILK and OIL, so let concentrate on that!

THE IDEAL TEACHER

Does the perfect teacher exist or is it science fiction?
On October, 5th we celebrate the World Teachers' Day.
What do you think makes a good teacher?
Do you have good memories of your teachers? Share them with us. Leave your comments.
“Take a stand for teachers!” is the slogan of World Teachers’ Day 2012 (5 October)
Taking a stand for the teaching profession means providing adequate training, ongoing professional development, and protection for teachers’ rights.
All over the world, a quality education offers hope and the promise of a better standard of living. However, there can be no quality education without competent and motivated teachers.
On this day, we call for teachers to receive supportive environments, adequate quality training as well as ‘safeguards’ for teachers’ rights and responsibilities...We expect a lot from teachers – they, in turn, are right to expect as much from us. This World Teachers’ Day is an opportunity for all to take a stand
       Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director-General
Teachers are among the many factors that keep children in school and influence learning. They help students think critically, process information from several sources, work cooperatively, tackle problems and make informed choices.
Why take a stand for teachers? Because the profession is losing status in many parts of the world.. World Teachers’ Day calls attention the need to raise the status of the profession - not only for the benefit of teachers and students, but for society as a whole, to acknowledge the crucial role teachers play in building the future.

NORBA IN LOVE: in February, all you need is LOVE!

In February our school library has organized a love letters competition with great prizes. Students are also writing love letter in English and they have left their favourite love quotations in this blog. Don't miss them! Here you have one of the most famous love poems ever written. The author is William Shakespeare. You can also read the Spanish translation. If you like The Beatles, listen to "All you need is love".

And don't forget to leave your comments with your favourite love quotes!

Sonnet 18
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this and this gives life to thee.

Soneto XVIII
¿A un día de verano compararte?
Más hermosura y suavidad posees.
Tiembla el brote de mayo bajo el viento
y el estío no dura casi nada.
A veces demasiado brilla el ojo solar,
y otras su tez de oro se apaga;
toda belleza alguna vez declina,

Listen to "All you need is love" by The Beatles.
